Pretty eventful day yesterday...my alarm clock went off at 4:30am, because Josh and I had the intention of going out into the city and checking some activities off the month-long NYUAD scavenger hunt list. Decided we'd rather be dead, went back to sleep, and didn't head out until after lunch. Discovered the epic fish market and carpet souk, and that I'm still terrible at bargaining. We got our picture on a dhow with some drunk but apathetic sailors. I got an afternoon nap in, made a salad while listening to country music (it's a guilty pleasure, I know), and went to the store for baklava with Yannick and Tom and a shopping cart they found. One or more of us may have been barefoot, and we may or may not have been in the shopping cart at some point. All of which led up to a lovely shabbat dinner with some of the NYUAD community. Aside from stuffing our faces like it was Thanksgiving, it was lovely to acknowledge time set aside
Today I'm just sick enough to stay in bed and "rest"...aka catch up on work and eat ice cream cake and Krispy Kremes. One of my professors assigned Artaud's The Theater and Its Double warning us that it would make no sense. After all, it is now widely accepted that the author was psychotic. The overarching idea that there is some deeper meaning in life which we generally ignore and which it is the aim of true theater to reflect is intriguing...but I'm not sure where the analogies between theater and alchemy or golden dolpins fits in. Try synthesizing that material into a class presentation.
