Started my on-campus internship. My first task is to propose a budget and order books on spirituality to build a library for the Spiritual Life Center...RIGHT up my alley! Learned protest chants in Arabic. The opening show of CHAOS (the first production ever written, rehearsed, and performed completely in Abu Dhabi) was cancelled due to it being one of the windiest days ever in the city. Also, wind made it a bad day for window-washing...the cradle broke near the top of our building and swung over to the adjacent side of it, several workers stranded for nearly 2 hours before firemen broke a window on the 38th floor and pulled them through. Let me tell you, watching that plus pieces of your building flying by the window is...disconcerting. But everyone's safe!
Everyone's also a little bummed. This week has been kind of hellish and neither going to bed early nor the camaraderie of late-night discussions can cure it. I wander to Starbuck's with my iPod last night. The ladies in front of me were imitating this video ("Do the Creep" with Nicki Minaj from SNL), which is also disconcertingly descriptive of Abu Dhabi's beaches. So we had a nice laugh waiting in line for coffee. And it gave me just enough energy to (almost) get through my Arabic homework.
