...an exam. Some meetings and lectures. Some Christmas shopping and errands. 17-hour plane trip. A to-do list including things like "presentation analyzing musical theory in pieces from 20th century Egyptian and Syrian art music" which is so long and overwhelming that I've put things like "shower" on it because it makes me feel good to know I'm crossing things off. So sorry for slacking off blogging.
So my I was reminiscing today about how my Thanksgiving morning started with a zombie. Some students had gone to be extras for the first zombie movie screened in Abu Dhabi...I was so tired I didn't think I could pull an all-nighter, but I'm already regretting that decision. As my mentor Rubén Polendo has been known to say, perhaps our primary goal in life is to create memories. Anyway, at about 5am, the zombie extras returned and decided in their sleep-deprived state that it would be a good idea to sneak into people's rooms and wake them with zombie screams. Yeah. Thankfully, they went to the other bedroom where Cassie and Nicole were sleeping, but it still took a bit to realize what was going on...and that I couldn't possibly be hearing what I first thought was a catfight from the 7th floor of an apartment building in downtown Abu Dhabi.
On the bright side, this week I got to watch people try Dr. Pepper (it's really only the Texas who are huge fans), root beer, and snickerdoodles for the first time. :)
